- SUCCESS STORIES
Cerebral Palsy itself brings various ups and down in the life of a child and his family.
Lets hear out from one such family who has been through all thick and thin with a positive attitude towards the life. They have been doing all amazing things despite of all the challenges came across.
Story of our SHINING ARMOUR – KAMRAN!!!
Kamran is 20 years old an adult with cerebral palsy
Kamran is our first child, like every parent, we were excited, happy and nervous at time of his birth.
He had forceps delivery, dint cry immediately after birth. He had NICU stay. At the time of his discharge from NICU, we were asked to consult a Neurologist, where we came across the biggest truth of our life. Kamran is a special child, will have to face physical challenges and has to undergo therapies during his life.
The turmoil has begun for us. We were shocked and surprised as we were not able to understand the reality. We started his physiotherapy since he was 2 months old and has been continuing it till today. We have tried all and different forms of therapies. Initially we were not aware about the hardships coming ahead at every step like about the conditions, challenges, acceptance and the prognosis. We were blessed with various consultants, therapist, mentors and advocates who has motivated us to cross each and every step with more confidence
During his therapy sessions, therapist made sure his activities are play oriented and focused on his standing – balance activities. This was the click moment for us, where we came across his strength – throwing capabilities. His therapy – oriented towards playing basketball and shotput, made us aware about his interest in sports with great throwing skills. This way his journey into sports was started.
First and foremost, he was encouraged to participate in inter-child competition at polio foundation, Ahmedabad. He never looked back after this
We still remember advise given by Dr. Shraddha Diwan, ”Don’t take it as he is not capable, Look at what he is good at , strengthen his those qualities and capabilities”. Since then, our whole family supported us and helped us to improvise his sport skills.
Mentors
Since November 2022, he is staying at his mama’s house in Palanpur where he is practicing in sports under the guidance of a coach who coaches individuals with special needs.
His determination kept him pushing, it gives us all hope and shows that everything is possible. He never let cerebral palsy get in his way of achieving his dreams.
